Full-Time Café Cook

The Café Cook will be responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of food for the Café Common Place, including external catering and events. The café will be located adjacent to the main entrance and foyer/atrium of the MCC Centre in Abbotsford. The café will serve a full breakfast and lunch menu and will be open from 7:30 to 4:00 pm Monday – Saturday. The emphasis is on fresh, healthy and tasty food served in a welcoming atmosphere. The café will also offer catering for meetings and events which could include evenings and weekends.
The Cook will report to the Café Manager and will work with the café team of staff and volunteers to ensure consistent quality and efficient service for the café kitchen
General Qualifications: All MCC workers are required to have a personal Christian faith, active church participation, a commitment to non-violent peacemaking, and support for the mission of MCC.
Job Specific Qualifications include: sound understanding of the culinary arts, including Red Seal Journeyman’s papers or equivalent experience. Experience at menu planning and implementation as well as inventory stock taking. Demonstrated leadership skills with a hands-on style. Highly self-motivated; able to work independently and take initiative, while working collaboratively with a team. Excellent communication and good organizational skills. Physically fit and able to perform repetitive physically challenging tasks and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs). Flexibility to work a varied schedule that includes days/evening/weekends. Satisfactory criminal record clearance upon hire.
