The Legacy Trust Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the “Legacy Trust” group of companies owned by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) British Columbia. The Legacy Trust group of companies is comprised of donated assets that function similar to an endowment, with the purpose of generating ongoing revenue to support the world wide ministry of MCC.
MCC is a Christian faith based agency that provides relief, development and peacebuilding initiatives in over 60 countries worldwide. MCC BC carries out programs that address basic needs here in BC and also supports the international work of MCC by generating funds, recruiting personnel and mobilizing material aid.
MCC BC is the shareholder of the Legacy Trust group of companies and appoints the directors of the Legacy Trust Board and related subsidiaries as needed. The Legacy Trust Board is the oversight body of the Legacy Trust group of companies and properties and as such it approves the goals, plans, policies and long direction of Legacy Trust within the general parameters set by MCC BC as the shareholder.
The Executive Director of Legacy Trust is a new position starting in the fall of 2015. The Executive Director will be accountable to the MCC BC Legacy Trust Board and will be responsible for the management and development of the Real Estate and Business Subsidiaries of MCC BC. Applicants should have solid business education and significant business management experience.
This position is available on a full time salaried basis, part time contractual arrangements would also be considered. Only those candidates who are legally eligible to work in Canada should apply.

Post-secondary education in business, finance, economics or a related field
Significant experience in a leadership role related to business development
Experience with property management, real estate development and related regulatory issues
Experience with the development of subsidiary enterprises and corporate governance
Experience working with boards and familiarity with the non-profit organizations is an asset
Strong financial management skills and the ability to develop feasibility studies and business plans
Ability to effectively communicate complex business and economic issues to a diverse audience
Ability to network and build relations with prospective partners and donors
Good negotiating skills related to regulators, financial institutions, partners and contractors
Effective strategic planner, pro-active problem solver, flexible and open to change
Entrepreneurial attitude and a creative innovator at a practical level that adds value
Excellent inter-personal skills in a collaborative and diverse team environment
Approachable, humble, patient, open to criticism, good sense of humour
Comfortable using a variety of standard software programs
Satisfactory criminal record check
Management and development of real estate and rental property subsidiaries of MCC BC
Function as an ex-officio member of each of the subsidiary company boards
Provide support for the MCC Legacy Trust Board in the development of investment policies and long term planning for donated assets
Provide support for strategic and business planning for each subsidiary company as needed
Ensure adequate staff support is in place for the Boards of each subsidiary company
Ensure that accounting and reporting systems are in place for each company
Financial oversight, including financing, taxation and reinvestment strategies
Develop the business operations of the subsidiaries, according to the mission, values and the goals of MCC BC Legacy Trust, as approved by the Board of Directors of MCC British Columbia
Marketing the MCC Legacy Trust to prospective donors in the constituency
The Legacy Trust Executive Director is accountable to the MCC Legacy Trust Board which is accountable to the Board of Directors of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) British Columbia
Ensure governance structures are put in place for each subsidiary
Ensure compliance with all government regulations, reporting and taxation
Develop and maintain policies for the MCC Legacy Trust Board
Monitor and report on the business viability and return on investment for each subsidiary
Analyze potential donations for viability
Recruit, hire and supervise personnel responsible for subsidiary operations (i.e. property management, development of properties)
Develop a set of job descriptions as necessary, for submission to and approval by, respective subsidiary boards
Plan for capacity building for future expansion
Ensure that adequate financial accounting and reporting systems and staff are in place for each subsidiary
Maintain a long-term plan of the financing, income and investment strategies of the subsidiaries
Reporting and accountability
Ensure that reporting on the financial results is received regularly by the governing boards of each subsidiary and by the board of MCC
Ensure that the audit and review process for year-end financial statements is planned for and carried out in a timely and efficient way
Be aware of and ensure that any decisions that require approval of the boards are properly processed and documented
To review and report to the Legacy Board on potential development opportunities in the context of a reinvestment strategy
Develop a marketing plan for “legacy donations” directed to MCC donors and others in the Christian community as well as the general public
Implement the marketing plan including the development of promotional materials, meeting with prospective donors, speaking in churches, and representing the organization in other faith based and public meetings
Articulate faith based reason for giving, provide compelling reasons for giving to the ministry of MCC, and present the case for giving to MCC in the form of “legacy donations”
Demonstrate the management and governance capacity of MCC Legacy Trust in order to build confidence in those who are considering a “legacy donation”
Ensure that MCC beliefs and values are reflected in the performance of all work related responsibilities
Model non-violent peacemaking in the workplace and community through respectful interactions and work relationships
