Contract MBCI Home Stay Facilitator

Part-time contract
Term effective October 2017 to June 29, 2018*
*With the possibility of extension

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of International Education Program, the Homestay facilitator provides support to the Homestay Program including assisting with recruiting and maintaining a network of homestay families, assigning student homestay placements and acting as a liaison between homestay families, international students & MBCI for the International Education Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, inspects and selects prospective homestay residences and assign placements based on established practices
  • Provide orientation for host families
  • Maintains required documentation for host families
  • Communicates every two months and as needed with homestay families; manages and resolves homestay and international student issues in a prompt and amicable manner
  • Communicates every two months with MBCI and provide a year end report
  • Maintains an evaluation and feedback system with host families
  • Regularly update MBCI Homestay Guidelines
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding the Homestay Program
  • Maintains homestay database
  • Assist with the promotion of the Homestay Program
  • Attend monthly international club social events
  • Requisition monthly payments for Homestay fees
  • Works collaboratively with International Education (IE) team to provide support in the following areas:
        Communicating airport arrival and departure times to host families
        Greeting international student at the airport on their arrival
          International student orientations
          Mediation between international students and homestay families
          Responding to crisis and/or emergency situations outside of regular work hours, including being on-call for emergency situations evenings and weekends
  • Notify IE team of any contact information changes for host family.


  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as work effectively in a collaborative team
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity
  • Knowledge of the MBCI and MB church community
  • Ability to work varied hours including weekend and evenings when necessary
  • Good judgment skills and the ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy; maintain confidentiality
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain discretion regarding sensitive and confidential information
  • Good computer skills with an emphasis on MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Possesses a valid Manitoba driver’s license and has access to a vehicle for travel within the city as required
  • Applicants must supply a clear Criminal Record Search and Child Abuse Registry Record upon hire
