Burnaby Pacific Grace Church is currently looking for an English Ministry Pastor with a calling to serve in a multi-generation and multi-cultural, English-speaking congregation, located in North Burnaby.
Job Purpose:
The English Ministry (EM) pastor is responsible for the church’s overall English Ministry (Grade 7 – adults). They monitor and develop the spiritual maturity of members through worship, discipleship, fellowship, and evangelism within the English Ministry. The EM pastor provides pastoral care and assists in planning the church direction and provides leadership and guidance in all areas of the church related to the English congregation.
The successful candidate will work closely with the senior pastor, children’s pastor, youth pastor/worker, the pastoral and staff team, and will be held accountable by the deacon board.
About BPGC:
Burnaby Pacific Grace Church (BPGC) began in 1990 as a Cantonese-speaking church reaching out to immigrating families from Hong Kong in the early 1990s. Sensing a need in the late 90s for the development of the next generation, the English congregation was established. Over the years, by God’s grace, the church has continued to flourish with the English ministry consisting of 70+ regular attendees weekly. BPGC is affiliated with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (BCMB).
Job Description:
A. Worship
- Oversee the Sunday worship ministry
- Sunday pulpit preaching (average twice a month)
- Coordinate pulpit schedule for the English Ministry
- Officiate communion and baptism when needed
B. Discipleship
- Monitor and assist the spiritual growth of members
- Equip teachers, leaders and counselors through mentorship and training
- Oversee the direction and planning of the Discipleship Ministry: Sunday School andDiscipleship Pathways
- Recruit and support Sunday School teachers
- Assist Sunday School teachers with curriculum development and teach Sunday schoolwhen needed
C. Fellowship/Small groups
- Oversee the direction of fellowship, small group, and community time ministry
- Recruit and support counsellors and leaders in planning programs
- Work with counsellors and leaders to evaluate the spiritual growth of small groups/fellowships
- Participate or lead small groups/fellowships
D. Evangelism
- Work with the Mission Board to plan and coordinate programs
- Recruit and support leaders in planning English Ministry outreach programs
- Encourage members to participate in mission and evangelism activities
E. General Duties
- Work and collaborate with the pastoral & staff team, deacons, and ministry leads
- Attend monthly Deacon Board meetings, staff meetings twice a month, and AnnualGeneral Meeting
- Provide monthly ministry reports to the Senior Pastor and Deacon Board
- Attend and oversee English prayer meetings
- Participate in and support MB Conference events
- Assist deacons and ministry leaders in developing the annual English Ministry plan andbudget
- Supervise and mentor English ministry associate and youth pastors, workers or interns
- Provide marital counseling. Officiate weddings (or work towards certification), funerals,and other services if needed
- Visit and provide care for members
Qualifications:
- A committed follower of Christ
- A theological degree from an accredited North American evangelical theologicalseminary, preferably with a Master of Divinity, or equivalent
- Agree and subscribe to the Canadian Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith
- Obtain pastoral credentials from BCMB within two years of employment
- Experience navigating the intricacies of a multicultural church would be an asset but notrequired
- At least 2 years of full-time pastoral ministry experience with supervisory responsibilitiesover junior staff will be an asset
- Ability to communicate in Cantonese would be an asset but not required
- Criminal record check required
