Synopsis
This position offers meaningful opportunities for a positive impact globally and in Manitoba, in partnership with generous supporters. The development manager is a lead resource for the development and implementation of strategies that cultivate and deepen relationships, build trust and ensure ongoing revenue growth for the mission and work of MCC in support of families and communities in vulnerable contexts.

Part of a 12-person department that is responsible for revenue generation, communications and engagement with donors, volunteers, communities and churches,  the development manager reports to the development & communications director, works closely with the database administrator and major donor colleagues, interacts regularly with the full department team and liaises with counterparts in the MCC national office and provincial offices from BC to Ontario.

This is a full-time salaried position with a generous benefits package and professional development opportunities. General work hours apply with flexibility required for occasional evening or weekend commitments. Flexibility with a hybrid schedule of work from the office and home is possible.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Five years of experience in the charitable sector focused on customer relations or relationship development, ideally within a fundraising context
  • Familiarity with fundraising principles and practices; knowledge of recognized sector ethical conduct and standards
  • Understanding of CRA regulations and charitable receipting requirements
  • Strong proficiency in database use, CRM platforms
  • Strategically focused, analytical thinker who is innovative and excels at organization – able to effectively plan, prioritize and implement donor development strategies
  • Ability to manage concurrent deadlines and high-volume workflow demands
  • Skills in synthesizing and interpreting data toward implementation and prioritization of learnings
  • Positive and supportive team player with ability to collaborate both within and across departments and networks
  • Strong written communication and copy-editing skills
  • Ability to build and manage donor relationships with professionalism, responsiveness, and a service-oriented approach
  • Proven comfort and appreciation for making meaningful connections via phone conversations and written correspondence
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • High degree of confidentiality and tact
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 365, including SharePoint.
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Satisfactory criminal record check (upon hire)

Preferred

  • CFRE designation or in progress
  • Familiarity with international development sector and a heart for social justice
  • One-two years experience supervising, delegating, mentoring or coaching staff
  • Familiarity with DonorPerfect (DPO) database

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of annual fundraising plans to ensure an optimized donor experience and revenue growth across database segments
  • Foster and support the implementation of the organizational strategic plan as it relates to donor relations through a collaborative approach to resourcing and problem solving, clear communication and operational effectiveness
  • Oversee the implementation of solicitation, cultivation, stewardship and engagement components for mass and middle donor portfolios with a key focus on new, second-gift conversion, lapsed, alumni, loyal/faithful segments
  • Lead the writing and editing process for provincially-led solicitations and stewardship collateral
  • Give oversight to an annual fundraising campaign focused on food security that brings together local food producers, donors and global needs in a unique, intentional, engagement-first approach (Grow Hope)
  • Provide team support to a major donor program, providing strategic input, pipeline development, data analysis and content resourcing for proposal and impact report writing
  • Collaborate as part of the nationally-led donor relations roundtable to lead provincialized input on timing, frequency and content of nationally produced direct mail communications
  • Evaluate the results of prepared quarterly data reporting on fundraising revenue, segment performance, trends and trajectories, and provide strategic analysis, prioritizing implementation of recommendations
  • Lead and implement the scheduling and response process across the department for supporter contributions and inquiries (phone)
  • Answer supporter inquiries in alignment with MCC values and operating principles.
  • Map administrative and stewardship processes, document procedures, and identify steps requiring revision or optimization
  • Maintain organized digital filing structures, stewardship matrices, and procedural documentation to support operational consistency across portfolios.
  • Participate in department, network and staff meetings and professional development, contributing in a positive way to organizational culture
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned

Salary Details

Base salary: $72,000
