Full-time Assistant Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies

Canadian Mennonite University – Posted by CMUWpg Anywhere

Job Description

Canadian Mennonite University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Biblical and Theological Studies.

The successful candidate will be a teacher-scholar in biblical studies (or a broader portfolio that includes biblical studies) who is able to engage a diverse student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and able to be involved with student research; an active researcher and writer, engaged with the life of their discipline; and a person interested in being part of the broader intellectual life and community of CMU.

We are committed to expanding our campus ethos to better reflect the global (catholic) nature of the faith; candidates who engage us with Indigenous standpoints or standpoints rooted in the global South are of particular interest to CMU.

Biblical and theological studies are at the core of CMU’s undergraduate liberal arts and sciences curriculum. Candidates interested in substantive cross-disciplinary engagement are therefore of strong interest to CMU.

CMU is a Christian liberal arts and sciences university rooted in the Anabaptist tradition, a Christian tradition emphasizing peace and community service. We expect faculty, in their teaching, research, and service, to engage productively and critically with the intellectual and spiritual life of the campus community. Applicants should hold a PhD or be near completion of their doctorate, have a solid theoretical and methodological background, a strong record of scholarly research, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

Winnipeg (population 750,000) is a vibrant, diverse city, the capital of Manitoba, and the cultural heart of Canada’s prairie provinces. Well known for its literary, musical and artistic scene, it is also home to four universities and several federal laboratories. CMU’s Shaftesbury campus includes a small farm, borders the Assiniboine Forest, one of North America’s largest urban forests, and is nearby the 450 ha (1,100 acre) Assiniboine Park, which includes the Assiniboine Park Zoo and Botanical Conservatory.

Interested candidates should submit: a letter of application; a curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching philosophy; a research statement; a statement on how their faith commitment would inform their teaching and scholarship at CMU; evidence of teaching effectiveness; and contact information for three references.

Subject to final budgetary approval, the appointment will begin July 1, 2019, or when the position is filled.

Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin January 31, 2019, and will continue until the position is filled.
Nominations or inquiries about the nature of the post may be directed to Dr. Jonathan Dueck, Vice President Academic and Academic Dean, / 204.594.0512.
