Full-time Cook – Food Services

Job Description

CMU Food Services is looking for an experienced cook who enjoys preparing wholesome and nutritious meals in a university residence setting. We are looking to hire a Food Services, Cook 1 or Cook 2, classification is dependent on qualifications and experience. Full time, 40 hours/week, on a rotating schedule, which includes days as early as 6:00 AM start or ending as late as 6:30 PM, includes some weekends. Eligible for CMU benefits.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to interpret recipes while preparing ingredients and producing foods for the daily menu, ensuring proper volumes and deadlines are met with appropriate quality of product and service
  • Assist the head cook with preparation of ingredients for meals
  • Preparation of salad bar
  • Preparation of vegetarian dishes
  • Preparation of a variety of baked products and desserts
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to meet the needs of varying diet requirements, intolerances and allergies
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of kitchen work areas and equipment, following sanitation procedures for general cleaning of the serving and kitchen areas
  • Assist with and set up catering outside of the dining room
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services

Qualifications:

  • A commitment to the Christian faith, the church, and the mission of CMU
  • Completion of a post-secondary training program in food services and related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience in cooking for large numbers of people
  • Strong knowledge of safe food handling practices, including proper storage and temperature storage; valid food safety certificate an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to engage with students and other guests in a positive and friendly manner
  • Must be physically capable of lifting up to 23 kg, and standing for long periods of time
  • Available for a flexible schedule and occasionally available to work beyond normal office hours and on weekends
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
